My parents were both librarians and I learned early on that anything
that I care about learning can be learned, especially if left alone to
experiment with it long enough. Another family value was that safety
regulations were a nuisance and most laws paper dragons. How the
aerial arts stayed hidden from me for so long I can only wonder about
but I discovered it by accident one day when I found a postcard in a
coffee shop bathroom.

I was one of Afterglow’s first customers and its lower ceilings were
still a good trade for a more personalized experience compared to
other studios. Being assigned the role of the Cowardly Lion for six
minutes during an early performance had a lasting effect on me of
reinforcing the facing irrational fears outside the studio, even saved
my life one afternoon.

I have tried a number of forms of aerial arts, but my long term focus
has been on silks and recently Lyra, because I enjoy how many moves
are interchangeable but create different experiences and leave me with
plenty to work with. When I’m not climbing on an apparatus I feel most
in my element working in my stained glass studio, seeing how fast or
far I can jog, driving somewhere new, or being submerged in a tree
lined rocky river. One of my weaknesses is that I love to see if I can
fix things and can often be bribed with hot coffee or seafood to find
out.
