Teen Competition Program


This special new program is structured to provide a more advanced level of training for teens who are eager to take their skills to the next level. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with skilled professional coaches from a variety of backgrounds, including Cirque du Soleil, Barnum & Bailey’s Circus, Dell’Arte Physical Comedy and specialized Mongolian Contortion. Focus will be on character development, act creation, movement quality, stage presence, and conditioning for advanced tricks.


Fall Program Dates: 9/7/20-12/19/20 (total of 15 weeks)

15 weeks of training, 9 hours of class per week, plus open gym access

Basic Team Requirements

  • 1+ years of aerial training or coach approval
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Audition in person or submit a video by August 24th
  • Solid technique foundation
  • Must be able to invert w/o assistance

Overview/Focus

  • Training is broken down into 3 workshops a week and a bonus class of the students choosing.
  • 2X weekly strength, conditioning & pain tolerance (toe/heel/elbow/neck hangs, single & double ankle hangs, hip circles, spinning, etc.)
  • 1-2X weekly technique focused aerial (lines, feet, movement)
  • 2-3X weekly team & individual flexibility
  • 1X weekly character/theatrical stage presence work
  • 1X weekly focused aerial act development
  • 1X weekly aerial/contortion/acrobatic/handstands class of students choosing (any class on schedule)


Competition Team Class Schedule

Wednesdays (3hrs)

Fall hours:

5:30-7p Technique & Act Development + team building skills w/ Erika & Stacie
7-8:30p Flexibility w/ Erika

Thursdays (2hrs)
5-6pm Strength & Flex w/ Stacie
6-7p Aerial Technique & Act Development + new skills, moves & drops in the air w/ Erika

Saturday (3hrs)
11a-12:45p Team Aerial Act Development Workshops- several guest coaches will lead a variety of workshops such as:
Basic Ballet Barre for technique and lines
Basic Tumbling (cartwheels, forward rolls, etc)
Basic Acrobatics & Partner Acrobatics (taught by John Dutch)
Classes will focus on technique, character development/physical theater, tumbling, acrobatics, lines, etc.
12:45-1p Snack Break- Group Journaling & Goal Setting
1-2p Strength & Flex w/ Stacie

Perks of joining the AG Competition Program

  • Weekly team check-ins on Zoom with lead coach, Erika Suehiro and assistant coach, Stacie Bogle
  • Individual feedback & progress reports every 3 weeks
  • All Open Gym sessions included in program costs
  • Special team only Open Gym session held once per week
  • Zoom meet up with inspirational artist (TBA)
  • Written manual with at home training plans to maintain goals

Our goal is to prepare you to share your art form with enthusiastic audiences at NW Aerial Festival, Afterglow student showcases and prepare for competitions around the west coast in 2021!

Applications are open for students ages 10-18.
Applications are open immediately and will CLOSE on August 17th, 2020 at midnight Pacific Standard Time.
Applicants will be notified of their participation status by August 31st, 2020 by midnight Pacific Standard Time.

Cost: $3,200
